I eagerly looked forward to reading this book and gain insights into the e-commerce world, considering that the author of the book founded the web site - Rediff.com - that was to become a portal for a whole gamut of online offerings, e-commerce being one of them.
Reading the book has left me with a sense of both emptiness and fulfillment in a manner that I did not set out to seek. I guess that's the beauty of books; they leave the reader with a wide array of feelings to savor. And this is why we’re drawn to them.
The author talks about the various ventures he tried, mentioning the challenges and the roadblocks that impeded the progress of each, before starting Rediff.com. The start-up story is well narrated, the idea and the ambition of the company, leading all the way up to Rediff going public. The discussion of the ‘entrepreneur's dilemma’, that the author finds himself in, and talks about, on whether to take his/her company public or not, in the early stages of the business, is something that any individual - with ethics and business sense - can relate to. Like the author, you might find the answer to this to your advantage.
The author also talks about the various technological waves that changed/transformed the way the business was done, and in most cases causing positive side-effects to other facets of mankind. The author discusses the current ‘wave he is riding’ and the way it is shaping the business, and keeps drawing parallels to and highlights the similarities with the earlier technological waves, from time to time. This discussion was the most insightful, and in my opinion, is the heart of the book.
In summary, it’s a good read and is sure to be insightful. But I was a tad bit disappointed since I was looking to understand the nuances of running an e-commerce business, how the supply-demand challenges are handled, maintaining relationship with your vendors and so forth. But I guess it’s a trade secret not to be given away in this competitive era, or most importantly, the author had a better plan.

The newest kind of book in the genre. It has a steady pace and can keep you up all night with its twists and turns. Sum it all up in one word - LOVELY!

Something different from the typical teen romance. A little boring the start but it gets awesome by the end!
